Automatic Pallet Changer System Enhances Production In Boring Mills

If you’ve been working with boring mills, you’d rather not waste time to constantly set and reset work-pieces. When you’re machining a piece, you’d want to get the other ready for a quick exchange to reduce time for the workload.  

This is possible with the use of FERMAT’s automatic pallet changing system which minimizes downtime but maximizes the workspace. The CNC machinist can easily manipulate large and heavy work-pieces made of iron and steel without having to interfere with the ongoing machining process.

Once the first work-piece is done and out of the mill, the second one is ready to be machined! Boring mills equipped with an automatic pallet changer facilitate higher rates of production. The pallet changer uses a CNC rotary table clamping plate that swaps various work-pieces into the mill to be machined. Initially, the pallet is rested on its own slide on a large bed where it will be loaded with a robust work-piece.

How It Works

The pallet with the attached work-piece slides off directly onto the CNC rotary slide where it will be transferred to the mill to be machined. Once settled, the pallet slide moves away from the machine and returns back to its position. The machining process starts while the second pallet is loaded with another work-piece.

Once the machining is complete, the pallet slide moves forward to retrieve its pallet with a machined work-piece and slides backward to its resting place. The rotary slide then moves over to the other side to receive the other pallet with the second work-piece, while the process repeats.
